Long-tailed Tyrant (Colonia colonus)

The Long-tailed Tyrant is a striking bird, which is mostly black, but has a peculiarly long tail, composed of two elongated thin feathers. Its head is grayish, with a broad white supercilliary and a white streak running down the center of its back. The following pictures of the nesting pair were taken on July 8th, 2017 during a Photography Workshop at Laguna del Lagarto Lodge with To The Wonder.

This bird was making a nest out of the woodpeckers hole in the palm tree. Interestingly enough, the woodpecker still reclaimed the nest after a few minutes

A twig can be seen on its beak. It was plucked away from a nearby palm tree
