Semiplumbeous Hawk (Leucopternis semiplumbeus)

The Semiplumbeous Hawk is a mid-sized hawk species that inhabits the Caribbean coast. It has orange cere and legs with white underparts, and grayish upperparts. The individual below was spotted at La Selva Biological Station, during a birdwatching trip with Asociación Ornitológica de Costa Rica, on October 15th, 2017. The hawk suddenly perched on this branch at the far side of the bridge, and stayed there for a few minutes, before disappearing as quick into the forest.

This hawk has a strong presence. It probably was watching prey in a lower level, but we did not witness any hunt.
