The Scintillant Hummingbird is one of the smallest in Costa Rica. The male has an iridescent orange gorget that glitters with brilliance as it moves around. The female is less striking in colors but looks beautiful. Due to their small size, they are able to rest placidly on small leaves without breaking them. I’ve observed them hold their ground to bigger hummingbirds in feeder stations, although usually the bigger species drive them away.
